Avis Budget Shifts Toll Operations to Neology

Avis Budget Group has moved a major piece of its toll operation to Neology, deploying the company's neoFleet platform across Avis, Budget, Payless, Budget Truck, and Zipcar vehicles.

The arrangement keeps Avis Budget Group in control of the customer relationship while Neology handles the back-end work with toll authorities. That includes vehicle registration, toll transaction aggregation, toll data management, and transponder procurement and fulfillment.

Why tolls are getting harder to manage

For rental and shared-use fleets, tolling is not a simple back-office line item. Vehicles move between customers, cities, states, and tolling authorities, and charges may need to be matched to a specific vehicle and rental window after the fact.

The companies said the deployment was completed ahead of schedule. Automotive Fleet reported that Jason Glass, Avis Budget Group's vice president of global business services, described the model as a way to keep the company centered on the customer experience while bringing in tolling expertise for the operational complexity behind it.

What Neology will handle

Neology's role is focused on the toll-authority-facing side of the program. The neoFleet platform combines transponder technology, toll data, and configurable management tools for commercial fleets.

That separation matters as more tolling moves to cashless systems, variable pricing, managed lanes, and congestion-style charging. In that environment, accurate vehicle registration and timely transaction data can determine whether a fleet sees a normal toll expense or a stack of violations and administrative work.

The fleet takeaway

The deployment gives fleet operators another model for deciding what to keep in-house and what to outsource. A company can own the customer policy, billing rules, and exception handling while relying on a specialist for authority relationships, transponders, and data flow.

For fleets with vehicles crossing many toll systems, the practical question is becoming less about whether tolls happen and more about how fast, accurately, and cleanly the data gets assigned.
