Hyundai Translead Adds $150M and 1,250 Jobs to Illinois Plan
Hyundai Translead raised its Illinois manufacturing commitment to $600 million and 3,750 jobs by adding a third shift. The expansion is a practical capacity signal for trailer and truck-body buyers watching supply and service support.

Hyundai Translead is adding a third shift to its planned Illinois manufacturing operation, raising its commitment to $600 million and 3,750 full-time jobs.
The company said October 22 that the added shift accounts for $150 million in new investment and 1,250 jobs beyond its original plan. In March, Hyundai Translead outlined more than $450 million for two facilities in Will County and 2,500 jobs.
A larger Illinois footprint
The manufacturer plans to use the expanded operation to increase U.S. production capacity. Hyundai Translead builds dry and refrigerated van trailers, flatbeds, truck bodies and dollies, so the announcement matters beyond a regional economic-development headline.
Illinois said the facilities will repurpose former Caterpillar and Lion Electric sites. The state also plans a Manufacturing Training Academy at Joliet Junior College to expand welding, industrial maintenance and advanced-manufacturing training tied to the project.
What fleet buyers should watch
New factory capacity is not the same as immediate equipment availability. Still, a third shift is a concrete signal that Hyundai Translead expects demand to justify a larger domestic footprint. Fleet teams sourcing trailers, bodies or related service support should watch production timing, dealer inventory and parts coverage as the Illinois sites ramp.
