Miele Orders 840 Electric VW Transporters for European Service Fleet
Miele will add 840 battery-electric Volkswagen Transporters to its European service fleet, with 440 bound for Germany. The order pairs the vans with lightweight Sortimo interiors for technicians carrying tools and parts.

Miele will add 840 battery-electric Volkswagen Transporters to its European service fleet, a large replacement program aimed at both household and commercial customer visits.
The vehicles are being procured through a European tender for 2026 and 2027. 440 vans are planned for Germany, while the rest will support service operations elsewhere in Europe.
Commercial service moves close to fully electric
Miele says nearly all of its roughly 420 Professional Customer Service employees will operate battery-electric Transporters. That unit supports commercial sites such as laundries, hospitals and canteens, putting the decision in the practical world of route density, tools, spare parts and daily uptime rather than a passenger-vehicle showcase.
The household-service fleet is earlier in its transition. Battery-electric vehicles currently make up about 30% of that operation, and Miele says the share will increase as vehicles are replaced.
Vehicle fit-out stays part of the fleet decision
The Transporters will receive Sortimo storage systems for tools and replacement parts. Miele and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles say the lightweight fit-out is intended to limit added vehicle mass, while also supporting secure storage and ergonomics for technicians.
Experience from Miele's earlier use of electric service vehicles informed the tender, including feedback on range, charging time, energy use and everyday suitability. The companies did not disclose the precise Transporter configuration, battery specification or a forecast for emissions reductions.
What fleet teams can take from the order
For service fleets, the useful lesson is that electrification planning extends beyond selecting a van. Route patterns, payload, upfit weight, charging access and technician workflow all affect whether a battery-electric replacement can reliably cover the workday. Miele's order is a sizable example of matching those operating details to a staged replacement plan.
