Schneider Names New Truckload, Intermodal Leaders

Succession Plan Reaches Operations

Schneider National is adding more detail to its leadership transition, naming new executives for its truckload, intermodal and logistics businesses as Jim Filter prepares to become president and CEO on Wednesday.

Filter, a 27-year Schneider veteran, is succeeding Mark Rourke, who will move into the executive chairman role. The Green Bay, Wisconsin-based carrier had already announced the top-level CEO change; Monday's update showed how the operating groups will be aligned underneath it.

Who Is Taking Over the Business Units

Michael Baumgardt was named executive vice president of Schneider's intermodal and logistics units. Baumgardt has been with Schneider since 2001 and most recently served as senior vice president and general manager of intermodal. Schneider said the two segments generated $2.4 billion in combined revenue over the last 12 months.

Steve Wells was named executive vice president of truckload. Wells has been president of Cowan Systems since November 2024, when Schneider announced its plan to acquire the carrier. He spent 27 years with Cowan and served as chief operating officer from 2019 to 2024. Schneider's truckload unit generated $2.5 billion over the last 12 months.

Why Fleets Should Care

The structure matters because Schneider is one of the largest multimodal carriers in North America, with truckload, dedicated, intermodal and logistics relationships that touch shipper routing guides across the country. Leadership changes at that scale can influence how quickly a carrier pushes network changes, integration work and pricing discipline through its operating units.

Schneider also promoted Angela Prill to senior vice president of intermodal operations, adding another internal operator to a business that has been central to the carrier's growth strategy.
