Carrier Transicold Adds Electric Cold-Storage TRU
Carrier Transicold's Vector 8200 gives food and temperature-controlled fleets an engineless option for temporary refrigerated trailer storage.
A Diesel-Free Option for Temporary Cold Storage
Carrier Transicold introduced the Vector 8200, an all-electric transport refrigeration unit built for stationary refrigerated trailers that food fleets and temperature-controlled operators use as temporary storage.
The engineless unit is designed for refrigerated, frozen and deep-frozen storage when fleets need extra capacity during seasonal peaks, facility work or other short-term demand. It runs from grid electricity or another external power source rather than a diesel TRU engine.
Built for Multi-Temperature Trailers
Carrier said the Vector 8200 can handle both single- and multi-temperature applications. Four remote evaporator options allow a trailer to be configured with one, two or three compartments.
The unit provides cooling capacity of up to 58,000 BTU/hr at 35 degrees F, 33,500 BTU/hr at 0 degrees F and 22,000 BTU/hr at -20 degrees F. It also supports electric heating and defrost while connected to shore power.
Power Management Is Part of the Pitch
The Vector 8200 uses Carrier's TRU-Demand E-Drive energy-management system to monitor electrical demand and adjust to changes in facility power supply. Carrier said the system can help maintain voltage during brownouts and reduce demand spikes when multiple units restart after an outage.
For fleets, the practical angle is flexibility. A trailer can become plug-in cold storage without on-site diesel use, direct engine emissions or TRU engine noise. Carrier said the Vector 8200 is available through its North American dealer network.
