Kalmar Recalls Ottawa T2 Terminal Tractors Over Fire Risk

Kalmar has issued a recall-related safety update for selected Ottawa T2 terminal tractors after rare thermal events tied to the units' cab power-distribution board.

The company said the affected configurations include the Ottawa T2 4x2 DOT/EPA, Ottawa T2 Off Road and Ottawa T2 6x4 DOT/EPA. It filed the recall notice with NHTSA on Oct. 5.

What the update addresses

According to Kalmar, the cabin power-distribution board can experience a breakdown in electrical insulation resistance and may be subject to a short circuit. The company said the issue has, in very rare circumstances, led to thermal events.

Kalmar said units involved represent less than 0.001% of the Ottawa T2 fleet. The remedy adds a remote ground stud and fuse arrangement designed to isolate certain electrical circuits and prevent thermal events.

Why terminal fleets should check now

Terminal tractors tend to run predictable but high-utilization duty cycles around ports, yards, distribution centers and manufacturing sites. Even a small recall population deserves a fast asset-level check because an out-of-service unit can create a bottleneck at a gate or dock.

Fleet teams should confirm covered vehicle identification numbers with their Kalmar contact, document the remedy in maintenance records and review local parking and inspection procedures until each affected unit is updated.
