Reading, Masterack Combine Commercial Upfit Operations

Two upfit brands move under one operating network

Reading Truck Equipment and Masterack are integrating their operations to create a broader North American commercial vehicle upfit organization under J.B. Poindexter & Co.

The combination brings Masterack's cargo-management systems for commercial vans and pickups together with Reading's network of upfit, installation, parts and service locations. The companies said customers will continue working with existing sales and support contacts while gaining access to a wider product and service portfolio.

What changes for fleets and dealers

The combined organization is positioning itself as a single source for specification, installation and ongoing support across multiple commercial vehicle formats. For fleets that run mixed vans, pickups, service bodies and vocational trucks, the practical value is less about a new brand name and more about whether upfit decisions can move through fewer handoffs.

The integration also puts the BEDSLIDE product line inside the combined operation, including manufacturing, sales and customer support. That expands the cargo-management catalog available to fleets and dealers that need drawers, slides and van or pickup storage systems matched to the job.

Why it matters to fleet planning

Upfit lead times, local installation capacity and parts support can shape when a work truck or van actually enters service. For national or multi-region operators, even small differences in installation scheduling can affect rental use, technician productivity and customer appointment coverage.

A larger combined network could help organizations standardize builds across regions, but fleets will still need to test whether quoting, delivery timing, warranty support and repeatable specifications become simpler for fleet teams in practice.
