Missionforce Replaces Legacy Fleet Systems
The U.S. Air Force's 441st Vehicle Support Chain Operations Squadron is now using Salesforce's Missionforce National Security platform to manage a $13.5 billion vehicle fleet, according to Salesforce and The Defense Post. The fleet includes more than 84,000 vehicles spread across nearly 389 locations.
The 85-person VSCOS team supports more than 7,300 personnel and faced the sunset of legacy fleet-management systems. Salesforce says the IL5-authorized platform runs on Government Cloud Plus Defense and is intended to give commanders and fleet managers a unified view of inventory, maintenance status, equipment movement and distribution.
What The Platform Handles
Salesforce said the system supports more than 51,000 vehicle and equipment movement requests, lets base personnel log arrivals and update equipment status in real time, and helps compare data from ERP systems of record such as ELMS. It also includes MELRAT, a contingency-support application that Salesforce says reduced the time needed to identify eligible inventory for missions such as Presidential support from days to minutes.
The company also said VSCOS is exploring AI uses for data entry, VIN validation and vehicle sensor data tied to predictive maintenance. Those functions are still an operational test for the Air Force, but the direction is clear: the service wants one data foundation for vehicle readiness instead of fragmented local systems.
Why Public Fleets Will Watch
For state, municipal, utility and campus fleets, the relevant lesson is not that Salesforce is suddenly a fleet-management specialist. It is that large public fleets are putting lifecycle, maintenance, readiness and distribution workflows onto secure commercial cloud systems when legacy fleet tools age out. The Air Force rollout gives other public-sector fleet leaders a high-profile benchmark for procurement, cybersecurity review and change management at scale.
