Amazon Rivian Van Fleet Reaches 40,000 Units
Amazon now has more than 40,000 custom Rivian electric delivery vans in service, up about 10,000 since the end of 2025 as it works toward a 100,000-van target by 2030.
The Fleet Count Moved Again
Amazon now has more than 40,000 custom Rivian electric delivery vans in its fleet, according to Fleet Management Weekly's recap of Rivian's second-quarter update.
That is roughly 10,000 additional vans in six months, up from more than 30,000 at the end of 2025. Amazon and Rivian struck their original agreement in 2019 with a target of putting 100,000 electric delivery vans on the road by 2030.
Why The Number Matters
The vans began rolling out in the summer of 2022 and were designed specifically around parcel delivery work. The vehicle program is now well past pilot scale, which makes the operating model more useful for other large route fleets watching depot charging, vehicle utilization, driver workflow, and service support.
Amazon's scale is unusual, but the lessons are not limited to parcel delivery. Fleets with repeatable routes, predictable dwell time, and centralized parking can use the same basic planning logic: match vehicle range to route profiles, build charging around actual dispatch windows, and keep maintenance access close enough that uptime does not depend on heroics.
What To Watch Next
For Rivian, the commercial van program remains one of the clearest proofs that purpose-built EVs can move beyond demonstration fleets. For Amazon, the next test is whether the growth curve continues as the easiest routes are already electrified.
The fleet milestone is less about a single van model than about operating discipline. The hard part is no longer showing that electric vans can run delivery routes. It is scaling the charging, repair, and replacement rhythm without adding friction for local delivery teams.
