Chevrolet Adds Duramax Diesel to Silverado Work Truck
Chevrolet's next-generation 2027 Silverado 1500 puts the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel into the Work Truck trim for the first time, while adding standard 10-speed transmissions and larger screens across the lineup.

Duramax Moves Down to Work Truck
Chevrolet is giving work-fleet buyers a broader powertrain menu on the next-generation 2027 Silverado 1500. The biggest fleet note is that the 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel will be available on the Work Truck trim for the first time.
The update is the Silverado 1500's first major overhaul since the current generation arrived for model year 2019. Chevrolet has not yet released final horsepower, torque, towing, payload, fuel-economy, pricing, or fleet incentive details for the 2027 truck.
New Engines, Same Core Layout
The lineup also gets two new naturally aspirated V-8 engines: a 5.7-liter and a 6.6-liter. They replace the 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V-8s that have anchored the current generation.
Chevrolet said the TurboMax four-cylinder will move from an 8-speed to a 10-speed automatic transmission, making the 10-speed standard across all four powertrain options. Regular, double, and crew cab configurations carry over, as do existing bed sizes. Chevrolet also said there are no current plans for a hybrid or plug-in hybrid Silverado 1500.
Why Fleets Will Notice
Every trim, including Work Truck, now gets a 16.3-inch center display and a 12.2-inch driver information center. For fleets buying basic trucks in volume, that means larger screens are no longer reserved for upper trims.
The Duramax move is the practical headline. For high-mileage pickup fleets, availability on Work Truck could make diesel easier to spec without stepping into a more expensive trim. The unanswered piece is total cost: final ratings and pricing will determine whether the new configuration becomes a broad fleet buy or a narrower duty-cycle fit.
