Nexar-Nauto Merger Puts 10B Miles Behind Fleet Safety AI

Nexar and Nauto plan to merge, bringing more than 10 billion miles of driving history into one safety intelligence platform. For fleets, the practical test will be whether bigger datasets turn into better risk signals, not just more dashboards.

A larger safety dataset

Nexar and Nauto have agreed to merge, combining two large driving-data businesses at a time when fleets are asking more from camera, telematics, and risk-scoring tools.

The combined company says it will draw on more than 10 billion miles of historical driving data and add more than 300 million real-world miles each month across more than 50 countries. Nexar CEO Zach Greenberger is expected to lead the combined company, while Nauto founder and CEO Stefan Heck will chair the board. Financial terms were not disclosed.

What fleets get now

Nauto is already known in commercial fleets for AI-powered driver and vehicle safety tools. Nexar brings a broader road-intelligence network, including data the company says covers most U.S. roads and supports models used by automakers, insurers, infrastructure teams, and autonomous vehicle developers.

The near-term message to customers is continuity: existing products and support teams are expected to remain in place after the deal closes. The longer-term pitch is that a wider data foundation can improve incident prediction, roadway context, and the accuracy of safety models.

The fleet question

For operators, the merger is less about AI branding and more about whether safety systems can move from recording events to spotting risk early enough to change behavior. Larger datasets can help, but only if the resulting alerts are specific, explainable, and usable by safety managers who already have more data than time.
